A CSV, or comma-separated values, file contains words, numbers or a combination of both separated by commas. CSV files are commonly used to share business contact information within email applications like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Eudora and similar programs. You can also convert spreadsheet and database files to the CSV file format. You can transfer a CSV file from one computer to another and even import the file type to your BlackBerry smartphone. The import process is done via your BlackBerry’s synchronization component.
1.Attach your BlackBerry to your computer with the supplied USB cable. Click Start, “All Programs” and “BlackBerry Desktop Software” on your computer to launch your phone’s synchronization application.
2.Click “Organizer” and then click “Configure Settings” under the Synchronization Settings. Click the check box next to Address Book on the Select Device screen.
3.Click “Setup.” Click “ASCII Importer/Exporter” and then click the “Next” button. The ASCII Importer/Exporter screen launches. Click “Browse for Database file” as the type of ASCII Importer/Exporter connector you want to use.
4.Navigate to the folder containing the CSV file you want to import into your BlackBerry. Double-click the CSV file to select it. Click the “Next” button. Click “Finish” when the message “Congratulations” appears.
5.Click “OK” on the Select Device application screen and then click “Sync” to transfer the CSV file from your computer to your BlackBerry. The contents of the CSV file will appear within your BlackBerry’s contacts list.
Tip
- You can check the contents of any CSV file before importing it into your BlackBerry by opening it using a spreadsheet application like Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice Calc or Google Docs.
